Navigating Transition
- The CEO of a medium-size company asked me to be his sparring partner as he was preparing the merger with another company. I helped him with his approach on how to lead and motivate his team during the transition, and how to position himself within the new constellation, especially with investors and major clients
- A senior executive with a long track-record at a global corporation felt that something was missing in his current role. I supported him in evaluating his professional options inside and outside of the corporation
- A seasoned professional had recently taken up a newly created role with a global corporation. I helped her to navigate her initial anxieties about the new leadership role, to understand her stakeholders, and to set role expectations for herself and others
Professional Effectiveness + Burn-out Prevention
- The partner of a law-firm was having alarming signs of a potential burn-out, including exhaustion, low motivation, and poor quality of sleep. He had already recognized that he needed to change his behaviour of taking care of his partners and his team, but not himself. I helped him understand the driving factors behind his behaviour, develop a healthier inner attitude towards his responsibilities, and identify new behavioural strategies to secure his needs
- An internal management consultant of a large corporation was struggling to meet her own high expectations in herself, while being exhausted from an immense workload. She had too many projects on her plate and felt like she was underperforming in all of them. I helped her to set boundaries for herself and others, understand her stakeholders’ priorities and needs, and improve her expectation management towards her stakeholders
Managing Conflicts
- The CEO of a medium-size company was struggling with a new board member that had been put in place by his investors. The CEO found the style of the new board member abrasive, and there had been a couple of public fallouts between the two. The CEO felt that his authority was at stake, and asked me to help him understand what was going on, and how he could ensure the confidence of the entire board and his investors
- The founder and CEO of a start-up was getting increasingly frustrated with her CIO who was a hard-working, brilliant IT expert, but a poor leader. Critical IT team members had all ready to quit because of his micro-management style. The CEO knew she needed to act but was worried about losing the CIO when addressing his leadership issue. I helped her to reflect on her own leadership, and to navigate her conversations with the CIO
Coping With A Crisis
- A young professional had taken on a role with the company of her childhood dreams. Within a year, the team she had joined was dissolved as part of a restructuring process, and she was assigned to a random team with a vague job description. She was having panic attacks and was ready to quit. I helped her with her strategy to improve her situation internally in the short-run, and to evaluate her inside-/outside options in the medium-term
- A former investment banker with an impressive track-record had left her career for fifteen years to raise her family. Due to a change in her personal situation she needed to get a job to secure her income. I helped her to manage her panic about re-entering the working world, and evaluate career options that would allow her to leverage her talents and make money
Team Coaching Examples
- The founder and CEO of a fast-growing start-up felt that her leadership team did not keep up with the speed of the company. She asked me to facilitate the development of a 3-year strategy plan with clear deliverables for the leadership team. As a result, two members were truly excited about the clear direction, and outperformed themselves. Another team member – in close alignment with the CEO – decided to leave
- The new CSO of a global corporation held by private equity was under massive pressure to deliver an emergency plan to “stop the bleeding.” Sales had closed to halved over the last 5 years. After initial one-to-one coaching, I helped him and his sales leadership team to facilitate a cross-departmental process to craft the sales emergency plan. I also coached the sales leadership team to prepare for a crucial board meeting
- A tax-lawyer had asked me to coach her individually, as she was feeling exhausted and ineffective in her job. Since the issues she was facing seemed to be rooted in the team, I suggested to involve her three partners in the coaching. During our team coaching it emerged that the friendship that the four women shared got in the way of sincere feedback and authentic communication, especially when it came to personal needs and boundaries. I helped the team to surface the issues that they had swept under the carpet, for the sake of politeness and harmony
